Youngster loaned out as another returns

In theory, the move should allow McShane - who has stepped up from the under-19s this year - to get some first team experience as he prepares to fight for his place in the first team squad. However, it's difficult to think of the last player we've sent on loan that has managed to get a decent run in the team when they returned. The likes of John Baird, Craig Molloy, Ryan McCay and Paul Quinn have all been sent on loan in recent years but haven't featured. Kenny McLean was loaned to Arbroath last year and is still at the club, so maybe he'll prove it is a worthwhile exercise after all.

McShane is unlikely to be the last youngster loaned out and there are rumours Ally Love will also be sent out in the near future, although you have to wonder who we'll have to make up the under21 rule if that happens.

McLennan could do that job, having done it last season. He was let go a few months ago but new boss Danny Lennon invited him back and the youngster has done enough to earn a deal. Another player who was let go, Sean Burns has now signed a short-term deal with Airdrie United.
