Training ground controversy rumbles on

The complex, which cost around £1million to develop, is on Allanton Avenue in the Ralston area of Paisley. The idea was initially concevied in 2007 in a slightly different part of Ralston, but after residents kicked up a fuss it was moved to a different lot of disused playing fields and derelict buildings. This seemed OK and it was given planning permission, with the first team beginning to use the centre last month. However, now the residents are up in arms again.

A flyer issued about tonight's meeting lists a number of problems that have arisen, some logical - floodlights being on past the agreed time - and some stupid - negative impact on house prices. Quite what they want done is anyone's guess, as most of these could and should have been dealt with in the planning stage. For most of their complaints I'd imagine it's now too late for anything to be done.

Seems like a blatant case of NIMBYism, but if they'd rather have a load of playing fields where neds hung out around abandoned buildings then they're a strange bunch. Who'd have thought you could get annoyed at playing fields being used for playing football on!
