The Aftermath

A fair bit actually. Yesterday morning there were rumours that the recommendation would go against us, something Stewart Gilmour quickly confirmed. It was something most of us had expected for some time but was still a major blow.

There was frantic activity on various Saints messageboards about what this meant, and the BBC e-mailed me through the site looking for an interview. Unfortunately I was out at the time so missed it, probably just as well as any interview I gave would turn into an attack on the council and do more harm than good.

The afternoon saw the Evening Times cover the story on their website, an article which can be seen at http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/hi/news/5039078.html complete with a misleading headline. The interesting point is that a petition signed by 784 local businesses (anyone who can name 300 local businesses wins a prize) was submitted to the council to show their opposition to the moves. These businesses better hope this petition isn't open to the public or else they could be finding themselves losing businesses anyway due to a boycott!

Not to be outdone a Saints fan has set up his own petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?sts1877&1 Despite having been online for less than 24 hours it has already surpassed the total number of signatures the business petition managed and has been signed by fans of many football clubs, showing just how devastating it would be if the council denies us planning permission. Online petitions don't often work but as the local businesses have done a petition this os worth a shot. I've signed it, get other folk to sign it now.

In the evening Stewart Gilmour was interviewed on 90 Minutes on Radio Scotland. Anyone who feels he has been bluffing about the stadium would know after hearing that that he clearly isn't. He also said that if we have to sell Love Street and groundshare we're looking at extinction within three years. There was a bright point though as Queen of the South player Stuart Lovell said we are his favourites for the title next season.

So that's where we stand at the moment. At least it takes our mind off the honking new home strip.
