Teale swaps Owls for Saints

Last updated : 01 July 2011 By Stuart Gillespie

Teale was released from the final year of his Owls contract earlier today to help him complete the move to the Buddies. He'll be 33 by the time the season starts, but while this isn't as big a coup as signing Steven Thompson, it's still a terrific piece of business from manager Danny Lennon.

Teale is predominantly a right winger (remember them?) but can also play on the left. He has a decent cross on him and will hopefully add some much needed width to the side.

Teale started off his career at Clydebank before moving to Ayr in 1998, playing alongside Lennon.

In 2001, Teale went south of the border when he joined Wigan as they raced through the leagues. They were promoted to the Premiership in 2005 and Teale played in that season's league cup final. He went to Derby in 2010 before signing for Sheffield Wednesday last summer.

Worryingly, their fans seem to be happy to be rid of him. I always remember Teale - who has 13 Scotland caps - causing us problems, particularly one week when he was excellent against us for Clydebank at Boghead, then signed for Ayr United and tormented us at Love Street!

There could be another new arrival soon (despite general manager Brian Caldwell being on holiday) as the mystery Dutch leftback who was on trial with the club seems to have impressed Lennon. Sadly, the signing of Teale suggests there will be no move for Celtic's Graham Carey.
