No decision yet on manager's future

The manager's contract is due to expire at the end of the season and hasn't been renewed, with the uncertainty over the club's ownership and also which division we'll be playing in next season cited as reasons for that. With safety secured on Sunday many people had been expecting a decision this week and chairman Stewart Gilmour said on Sportsound last night the matter would be discussed at a board meeting today. That led to most people assuming we'd have definitive news at some point today but at lunchtime the following statement was released:

"The board of St Mirren Football Club met this morning to discuss various routine matters. There is obviously speculation regarding the manager’s contract. No decision was made in relation to this and the board will re-convene early next week to consider matters further."

It's a pretty ridiculous state of affairs. Surely by now they should have decided whether Lennon was to be offered a new contract or told to leave. It's totally unfair on him - and the fact there's still no mention of a new contract doesn't bode well for him. Many fans had been hoping that if the manager was leaving then we would know ahead of Saturday's game against Hearts so the support and Lennon could say goodbye to each other. That now won't happen - instead everyone, including the most important person in all of this, will need to wait until at least Monday before knowing what is happening.

The uncertainty is good for no one. We have a number of players out of contract who can't be offered new deals because we have no idea who our manager will be next season. If we are sticking with Lennon then get that sorted and he can begin building his squad. If we're not, start the hunt for a new manager so he can be appointed as soon as possible. This continuing uncertainty and speculation does no one any good - and I wouldn't be surprised if the start of next week passes without any decision.
