McDonald and Carey linked with Saints

Twnety-nine-year-old McDonald spent last year at Hamilton Accies and played the majority of their games - hardly a seal of approval considering where they finished. However, during his time at Pittodrie, Rugby Park and Oldham, he scored a reasonable number of goals and isn't too old - but I'd like to think we can get someone better.

Such as Carey. There were rumours around a month ago that we planned to sign Paul McGowan and Carey from but while the former has signed, there has been no news on the latter returning. The irishman had an excellent few months with Saints in 2010 and can take a fantastic free-kick. Even if he only joined on loan, it would be a great move.

Rumours that he would be signing today surfaced on the web last night, but nothing happened. Normally, this would be treated with the contempt it deserved - but a BBC producer posted on Twitter today that we are waiting on him (Carey, not the BBC man!) returning from holiday. So perhaps there is some truth in it after all.

Worryingly, Danny Lennon has said today that while he'd like a maximum of three new players, he isn't after a centre-half. Considering the departed John Potter hasn't been replaced, it leaves us a bit light in that department. We could do with someone with a bit of presence who will mop up at the back and threaten from free-kicks.

A few places today have linked Darren McGregor with a move to Rangers, however these have been picked up from Black and White Army and are complete and utter nonsense!
