Fitzy returns as takeover progresses

Fitzpatrick had two spells as a player at Love Street - winning the Scottish Cup in 1987 - and also two spells as manager, the latter not particularly memorable. When he was sacked in late 1999 he did remark that as he'd done everything else at the club, the only possible way for him to return in the future was if he was buying it. Funny how these things work out.

Fitzpatrick is likely to be the figurehead for the new community interest company that is likely to own the controlling interest in the club, with the other new advisor being banker Scott McLennan. It's a good PR move from prospective owners RIchard Atkinson and Chris Stewart.

However, they could have done with some better PR advice in recent months. The pair joined the board in the summer and at the AGM shareholders were told details of the community club model would be made public in January. It's nearly April and there is still no news, although there are set to be a series of meetings with fans in the next few weeks.

The lack of news has led to increasing concerns from fans, of which I'm one. While negotiations are understandably sensitive, there are some points - such as why someone with no connection to St. Mirren wants to buy the club - that could quite easily have been answered.

I'll admit I don't know the full details, but I have my doubts about how this is going to work and I've yet to hear anything to ease my mind.
