Faroes Goalscorer Was Former Trialist!

Johnsson, who plays in midfield, was on trial at the same time as an Australian under 21 internationalist called Paul Harries, and neither player was signed. There were also a few youth players on trial at the time, and one was signed whilst I can't remember if the other one ended up a Saints player! Johnsson was supposed to be invited back over the summer for another look, but it seems nothing has come of that.

Had Saints signed Johnsson, he'd have been the first current international in a Saints jersey since the days of Guni Torfasson and Roy Aitken. Paul McKnight has made the Northern Ireland squad on a few occasions, even making the bench once, but has not picked up a cap.

Johnsson would have been the second member of the Faroe Isles squad to play his football, as their current goalkeeper Jakup Mikkelsen plays his football in the SPL for Partick Thistle. Mikkelsen appears to be fairly poor, and as he is apparently the Faroes best player we probably made the right decision not to sign his team mate.
