Eight more signings for Saints?

In an interview with the BBC today (which you can hear at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/scotland/8751861.stm), Lennon says he's looking for a squad of 20 plus two goalkeepers. As we currently have three, that means one of Paul Gallacher, Chris Smith and Mark Howard is on his way and Gallacher is the favourite, having been linked with a move to St. Johnstone in the last few weeks.

If we assume the 20 does not include youngsters like Ally Love and Conor Ramsay, we currently have 11 outfield players signed up: Lee Mair, John Potter, Hugh Murray, Steven Thomson, Michael Higdon, Garry Brady, Craig Dargo and David Barron, as well as new boys David van Zanten, Paul McQuade and Darren McGregor. If Steven Robb signs a new deal - and he probably well - that takes us up to 12, meaning eight slots to be filled.

So, what will they be? A leftback is a must, as are wingers for each side of midfield, a centre half, a central midfielder and a striker. As for the other two slots? Someone who can play centre half and leftback would be ideal and possibly another midfielder or striker.

Interestingly, Lennon has indicated the guys coming in from the lower leagues are likely to be squad players and he wants them signed up by the end of the month before he turns to bigger name players after their contract expires. On another note, this is a good move as it means the players who were formely part-time will get the benefit of a full pre-season with full time players.
