St. Mirren: Jack Ross

Last updated : 22 January 2012 By Stuart Gillespie
Name: Jack Ross

Current Club: DumbartonSporting Shorts

Position: Defender

Saints Career: Jack came to the club in 2008 after leaving Falkirk. It didn't seem to be the most exciting signing ever, but opinions quickly changed as he put in a string of fine performances at rightback. He proved was more than willing to get forward and have a shot at goal. An injury towards the end of the first season didn't stop him facing his former club in a crucial relegation decider and was sensational, putting in a Cafu-esque performance, as we took all three points. The following season wasn't anywhere near as good and an injury about two-thirds of the way through put paid to things. There are suggestions he was involved in the much publicised player bonus row and even he leaked it to the papers as he is keen on pursuing a media career.

Post Saints Career: Jack left in the summer of 2010 and was reunited with Billy Reid at Hamilton, having worked under him at Clyde. However, he lasted less than two games - when he was awful - before being released. He had to drop down a division to find another club, joining up with Dunfermline in September. However, injuries forced him to retire and he became involved in football in an administrative capacity. But in 2011 he came out of retirement and started looking for a new club and joined Dumbarton as a player/assistant manager. He is also a pundit for the BBC and a new website, Sporting Shorts.
