Ex Saints: Steven Thomson

Last updated : 22 June 2012 By Stuart Gillespie

Name: Steven Thomson

Current Club: Dover Athletic

Position: Midfielder

Saints Career: Steven arrived at Saints from Brighton at the start of 2009. He got off to a slow start, partly because he was being played slightly out of position, before scoring his first goal against Motherwell. He managed a few more after that, including a few screamers against Inverness Caley Thistle and a brace the glorious night we gubbed Celtic in Paisley. A box to box midfielder who would win tackles and pop up in the oppositions penalty area. Things got confusing in 2011 when near-namesake Steven Thompson joined the club but the original Thommo missed parts of the season through injury, although he out in a good display against Kilmarnock in April 2012 when he scored his final Saints goal.

Post Saints Career: It was effectively a mutual decision for Steven to leave - he was moving back to England to start a non-footballing job while the club didn't plan to offer him a new contract. With his focus on his new career he quit full-time football but decided to keep his eye in by joining Blue Square South side Dover Athletic.
