Ex Saints: Nigel Hasselbaink

Last updated : 22 June 2012 By Stuart Gillespie

Name: Nigel Hasselbaink

Current Club: St Johnstone

Position: Forward

Saints Career: Nigel joined Saints in 2011 after playing for Hamilton during his first season in Scotland. The diminutive Dutchman not only brought pace but also strength and power, although was inconsistent. He scored his first goal for the club against Aberdeen but was rather harshly sent off the following week against Dundee United. His form dipped around the middle of the season but towards the end of the campaign - with his contract expiring - it picked up. Unpredictable, he was unstoppable when on his day, the Kilmarnock defence in particular coming in for some torrid treatment. The former Telstar and AZ Alkmaar man bagged eight goals during his time in Paisley but decided at the end of the season to go elsewhere - for footballing or financial reasons. While he could be frustrating, I was sad to see him go as when he was in the mood he was an exciting player.

Post Saints Career: Nigel decided to swap Scotland's Saints by signing for St Johnstone after leaving the Buddies.
