Player Profiles: Kenny McLean

Last updated : 21 July 2013 By Stuart Gillespie

Name: Kenny McLean

Date of birth: 8/1/1992

Position: Midfielder

Former clubs: Arbroath

Signed: 2008

Contracted to: Summer 2014

Kenny joined the first team squad in 2009 after coming through the youth system and had a successful spell at Arbroath that season. He made his Saints debut against Hamilton in 2010 and never looked back. That day he came on when we were 2-0 down and played a huge part in us getting a point. Established himself in the squad that season, showing superb vision and passing and a willingness to take on a man and get a cross in. He had to wait a few games to get a start the following season but didn't look back after that, continuing his passing and also adding goals against St Johnstone, Dunfermline and Hibs. He started the following season on fire and seemed to be having a goal of the season with himself, scoring some terrific long range efforts. Unfortunately he then got injured and his form wasn't quite the same when he returned, a further injury ruling him out of the start of the 2013/14 season. His passing and vision, as well as his place in the Scotland under-21 set-up, means it's only a matter of time until he moves down to England. Sadly, his contract expires in 2014 and it's looking more and more likely he'll leave for free.
