Gary's move to Saints came completely out of the blue. He was looking to return to Scotland, phoned up Saints general manager Brian Caldwell - who knows him from his days at Ayr - for training facilities and was very quickly signed! The winger started off his career with Clydebank and was highly rated, so it was a surprise when he made the move to first division Ayr. Saints fans were far from impressed as he'd caused us problems at Boghead and quickly did it for his new club the following week at Love Street. He had three great years at Ayr, which coincided with their best spell in recent years, before moving to Wigan in 2001. He helped them into the Premiership three years later before appearing in the losing side of the League Cup Final in 2005. A move to Derby County came in 2007 but he was shunted out on loan a few times before getting a second chance when Nigel Clough took charge. He finally left in 2010 for a season with League One side Sheffield United before a desire to return to Scotland saw him sign for Saints at the end of the season. Capped 13 times for Scotland, it seemed he had lost a bit of his pace and struggled to make an impact in his first ever season in the SPL, although did score against Morton and Ross County in the cups. The following season he seemed like a different player, causing havoc on the right flank and providing some fantastic crosses for Steven Thompson. One of his deliveries won us a penalty in the League Cup semi-final and his unselfish play saw him square Esmael Goncalves to tap in the equaliser in the final win over Hearts. Now a key player, he's also a fans' favourite thanks to the "Teale will tear you apart again" chant. He is contracted until 2014 but will be awarded an extra year if he makes a certain number of appearances.
