Saints 4-2 Morton

A win by two goals may not sound too impressive, however we were 4-0 up until late in the game, by which point we were beginning to tire and had made a few chances. This was the toughest test we had all pre-season and we passed it with flying colours.

It was a strong Saints line up to start with: Samson, van Zanten, Tesselaar, McGregor, Mair, Goodwin, Teale, Thomson, Thompson, McGowan, Hasselbaink. I must admit I was surprised to see Vanzy there after his injury and that left the likes of Carey and Barron on the bench.

I wasn't there, but judging by Twitter and the forums this was a fine display of football with plenty of attacking moves.Midway through the first half Thompson bagged his first after good work from van Zanten and Teale and the life long Saints fan added a second before the break after heading in a Thomson cross.

In the second half the roles were reversed as Thompson held the ball up before laying it off to Thomson, who rattled it in. As if that wasn't enough, former Morton man McGowan added the fourth after good work from Tesselaar.

Saints had begun making changes by this stage and that continued, which may explain why Peter Weatherston was able to bag two late goals - one from a free-kick.

No matter, the work was already done by then and everyone seems quite happy with what they saw. The pre-season preparations come to an end on Tuesday when we play Cowdenbeath.
