Saints 3-2 Ayr United

With 5 minutes to go Ayr looked to have grabbed a point at worse when Ferguson (dunno the first name but it wasn't Steven) equalised after more poor Saints marking. Surely Saints weren't going to throw away some points again.

No chance. With watches ticking around to 4.45 the new, slimline Barry Lavety won Saints a free kick. Would it be Lappin again? Nope, it was Gillies, who sent an even better effort passed the hapless Ludo to keep the points at Love Street. If you thought the crowd went wild when Ricky scored his first, it was nothing compared to the winner. A few kicks of the ball later and it was full time.

It must be some sort of parallel universe I've been living in for the past few days. Saints won back to back games (first since August 2002), a striker scored on Wednesday (first since August 2003), Saints scored from a short corner (first time ever!), Saints scored three free kicks in three days (first free kick goal I think since August 2002) and Ricky scored his first free kick since August 2000!

Saints didn't deserve to win this game, if either of the two sides deserved it it was Ayr. But how many times have we walked out of Love Street feeling robbed of the points by various teams?

Roll on next week and Falkirk.
