Saints 1-0 Raith Rovers

There was only one change to the 16 which was named for last week's match. Mixu Paatelainen was fit again and came onto the bench, replacing John Baird.

In truth not a lot happened in this match. The first half was relatively poor, Saints carving out a few chances thanks to the terrible kicking of the Raith Rovers goalkeeper. Allan Russell and Brian McGinty both had a few half chances but were unable to take full advantage of them. Kirk Broadfoot produced some nice touches, but was looking a bit shaky, whilst Simon Lappin was awful.

At the other end of the park, Raith had few chances as well. Craig Hinchcliffe had to look sharp at one point when made to save a Raith cross, but apart from that he had little to do. Raith's foreignors look rubbish, skewing shots everywhere and even falling over when going to take throw ins!

The second half started a bit better, with both teams having a few chances, although Raith probably had the better of them. After 60 minutes Mixu replaced Mark Crilly, who hadn't done much, and almost immediatly Saints were ahead. There was confusion from a corner, and when Brian McGinty collected the ball to try and cross it back in he was flattened. A stone wall penalty, and McGinty cooly slotted it away, sending Raith's keeper the wrong way.

After that Saints rallied a bit, with Russell and McGinty both having chances to increase the lead but failing to take them, often wanting a touch too many. It was at the other end the action was, Raith creating chances but not doing much with them, either messing up or giving Hinchcliffe easy saves.

The last five minutes were killed off by some fine time wasting from Saints, involving McGinty and subs John O'Neill and Laurie Ellis. Many Saints fans booed this, but these would no doubt be the same ones that would have been moaning had Raith scored because we didn't kill the game off!

A poor game then, with Saints nowhere near as good as last week. However, it's three points and keeps us near the top. Another win against Queen of the South next week would do just fine.
