Saints 1-0 Kilmarnock

Last week's game against Falkirk was poor, but this was something else. Little goalmouth action, few decent chances and no real quality in the play. To be honest, neither side deserved to win it - but if a team was to take all three points, we were probably the more deserving of them.

The first half provided little to get excited about. Andy Dorman shot at Combe while a mistake from David Barron let in Jamie Hamill, only for the Killie player to take too long and let John Potter get back to clear things up. Billy Mehmet headed over and hammered in a powerful shot that Alan Combe saved, while Kilmarnock nearly snatched the opener right on half time when Grant Murray's header was tipped away by Mark Howard.

The second half was little better. Craig Dargo shot straight at Combe while being held back and at the other end Danny Invincible's shot was well saved by Howard. Franco Miranda was back in the side at Ryan McCay's expense and had a decent effort deflected behind for a corner.

With five minutes left things heated up. Invincible's tame shot was saved by Howard while Dorman had another effort blocked before Potter's long range volley (yes, really) went just wide. With most people resigned to another goalless game, Saints were given a free kick in the last minute. Dorman floated it in and Haining was in the right place at the right time to head it past Combe. Game over.

Tenth place is hardly something to get excited about, but it's an improvement on last season - as our points total. It's been a poor season, but we might just be about to finish it on a high.
