Saints 0-3 Rangers

The tactics didn't work, with Gus MacPherson's patented 4-5-1 against the Old Firm once again failing to work. If we're going to play that, we need a couple of wingers - not five central midfielders! With the old and tiring pairing of Christian Dailly and Davie Weir in the Rangers defence it was the perfect opportunity to exploit that. Instead, we didn't bother, with Craig Dargo not even getting on the park.

The stupidity of one up front was highlighted after just five minutes. Steven Davis' pass found former Saint Kirk Broadfoot and his cross was tapped home by Boyd.

Saints responded well after that before a silly mistake from Stephen O'Donnell gifted Rangers the second. The ball got stuck under his feet and Darcheville pounced to slam home the second midway through the first half.

Saints recovered reasonably well - apart from when getting some players booked in a handbags moment - and had a half decent penalty shout when Broadfoot seemed to bundle over Stephen McGinn at the back post. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't given and we've now managed a whole SPL season without a penalty!

We did reasonably well in the second half, Billy Mehmet heading wide, but with 20 minutes left Darcheville finished things off with a well taken third.

All in all, the players can't be faulted for effort but it was a poor showing. Typical of the season really, role on 2008/09!
