Saints 0-0 Motherwell

I'd have taken a point before the game as Motherwell have only failed to win three league games this year (and they've drawn them) and they've conceded just a couple of goals, a pretty impressive achievement. However, from listening to the commentary it seems we had the better chances but weren't able to take them.

Dorman and Billy Mehmet were both dropped to the bench, Allan Johnston and Craig Dargo taking their places. Surprisingly, the spot of the injured Chris Innes went to Jack Ross, who no one expected to be fit until the League Cup Final at the earliest, while the returning Hugh Murray took over from Steven Thomson. Motherwell started with former Saint John Sutton up front, with the in-form Lukas Jutkiewicz and Jamie Murphy both on the bench.

The first half was relatively dull, Graham Carey going close a couple of times for Saints while Giles Coke threatened for Motherwell, with Paul Gallacher looking a bit suspect at times. The second half was better, with Motherwell having plenty of possession but not doing much with it (sounds familiar).

The best chances for us came when Dorman was introduced. His first involvement saw him put a reasonable chance wide, then when he was sent one-on-one by Dargo he somehow missed the target. In the final minute he chipped the ball up for fellow sub Stephen O'Donnell to head towards goal, only for Mark Reynolds to head it off the line - possibly with the help of his hand. Sadly, the penalty wasn't forthcoming and we had to make do with a point.

The run of games without a win is up to 10, but getting a point against Motherwell is pretty good going these days. Saturday's game against Hamilton is our last before the cup final, so let's hope we can prepare with a win.
