Saints made it five Renfrewshire Cup wins in a row tonight thanks to a penalty success over local rivals Morton. Fittingly, it was club captain John Potter who converted the decisive spot kick to give the Buddies the trophy for a record 52nd time.

Both sides fielded strong teams in a game that is slightly more competitive than your average friendly. Saints perhaps had the better of the first half and Steven Robb went close, only for his shot to be blocked by keeper Kevin Cuthbert. Morton were the better side after the break but couldn't make their dominance pay, meaning the game went to penalties.
Morton missed their first and third spot kicks while Saints only missed their second, meaning Potter was able to clinch the trophy with the final penalty. |
