Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2-1 Saints

Saints boss Gus MacPherson once again found himself forced to make changes through injury, with Simon Lappin and Hugh Murray the latest injury victims. They were replaced by John Sutton and David McKenna, whilst John Potter and Kevin McGowne returned in defence. Stephen McGinn made it onto the bench, and made his Saints debut when he replaced McKenna at half time.

It didn't take long for Saints to concede their first goal of the New Year; Graham Bayne heading home after just five minutes. Less than twenty minutes later they found themselves two behind when Dennis Wyness scored his first goal since February. New Year, same old Saints!

Caley Thistle dominated much of the game, but Saints found themselves in with a chance of a point when Broadfoot scored a header with fifteen minutes left. They then laid seige to the host's goal, with Garry Brady forcing an excellent save from Mark Brown when most thought the Saints midfielder had scored. Mark Corcoran then hit the post before Saints were denied a penalty for hand ball, referee Alan Freeland believing the offence had occured just outside the box.

That was as close as Saints were to get to an equaliser, and in the end it was probably a fair result. Hopefully we'll have a few players back - and a few new signings - for our next league game against Motherwell on the 13th of January.
