Dundee United 0-2 Saints

It's been a strange couple of weeks for Saints, with the delight of beating Falkirk and ending the winless run, the joy of the stadium news and the despair of Monday's disaster against Dunfermline. Add to that the utter euphoria of beating United and moving four points clear of the Pars, who face Motherwell on Monday.

Saints boss Gus MacPherson made three changes, with Mark Corcoran starting on the left wing (a change most Saints fans wanted), with Alex Burke and Andy Millen also starting (a change they probably didn't). Had it failed, Gus would be getting slaughtered - if he was lucky. As it was, it worked, and he deserves credit for that. John Sutton, Garry Brady and Richard Brittain were the men dropping out.

The goals came in each half, with Hugh Murray - of all the people - opening the scoring in the 23rd minute. However, a few minutes earlier Saints cause was helped when Noel Hunt was sent off, reducing the hosts to ten men. It's worth noting that Shuggy scored *that* goal against Stirling on the first Saturday in May nine years ago! It was the midfielder's first of the season.

The second should have come midway through the second half when Saints were awarded a penalty, but Stewart Kean's spot kick was saved by Derek Stillie. It's interesting to note that Sutton, Brittain and Kean have all taken two penalties each this season - scoring the first and having the second saved!

Saints were dominating but there was always the worry that United would sneak an equaliser. However, with just minutes to go, Broadfoot - who had an excellent game and was fouled for the penalty, headed in Saints second and his third of the season. Fair play to the big man - it would be easy for him to chuck it and save himself for his summer move, but if anything he's playing better than before.

The gap is now four points, although Dunfermline play on Monday. Motherwell will be looking for at least a point to end their outside chances of relegation - so hopefully they'll get all three.

For the last two away games Mirren Mad has predicted 2-0 wins - to the home team...
