Dumbarton 1-1 Saints

Saints gave debuts to new signings Mark Corcoran and John Potter, both strangely listed as trialists. Armand One started as a trialist, whilst Chris Hay (another trialist) was on the bench. In a change from most of last season, Saints played with a 4-4-2 formation.

The first half was open and mixed, both teams having chances. One showed some good touches and seemed abl to beat his man, however all too often he tried to beat more than was necessary. The one time he did have a shot it wasn't very good. He wasn't helped by the fact that every time he went for a header he was ruled to have fouled the defender, yet the defender got away with the exact same on him!

Corcoran, on the other hand, already looks a great signing. The quality of his crosses were good, the only real bad one producing a goal in the first half when Simon Lappin got onto it and fired it past the Dumbarton goalkeeper. The lead din't last long, though, when a mixup between Chris Smith and John Potter allowed Ian Russell to equalise.

A few other things happened in the first half but neither keeper really had to work too hard. With this being a friendly every player is effectively allowed to kick the opposition as much as they want and not get a booking. Well, that seemed to be the referee's view anyway.

The second half was pretty much a non event after the usual multitutde of substitutions. Corcoran and Potter went off, as did One, whilst Ian Maxwell came on for his debut and Chris Hay went up front. Sadly Brian McGinty also came on.

The second half was pretty much a non event until the last few minutes, when Chris Smith excelled himself with some great saves and goalkeeping play. Apart from that, nothing.

One looked alright and might be worth another shot, but chances are he'll be offski soon. Hay didn't really get a fair shot considering Corcoran was off by then and he didn't get much time to play alongside Kean. The problem is, are either of them the answer? I doubt it.

Not a bad friendly and seeing a rarity such as a SImon Lappin goal almost made it all worthwhile.
