Airdrie United 3-2 Saints

A defeat on Saturday and we can more or less kiss goodbye to whatever slim chances of winning the title we had. Usually we go a goal down then go on to win; not this time.

Owen Coyle scored the 287th goal of his career in the first half, with Saints defence non existent, as it would prove for most of the day (judging by the Scotsport highlights). If anyone knows where the defence was, please let me know. Thanks

Saints managed to equalise right on half time, when a Ricky Gillies free kick went through Airdrie keeper Lee Hollis in a comical, Massimo Taibi style. Why Ricky was starting is another mystery. If you're going to change the midfield Gus, start with John O'Neill. He scores goals and looks slightly more interested than a player who still hasn't scored a goal from open play all year.

Amazingly, Saints managed to take the lead in the second half when O'Neill got onto the end of Kirk Broadfoot's through ball and finished well. Once again we'd come from behind, surely we could go on and win?

No such luck. Airdrie equalised almost immediatly thanks to more poor defending. The original shot wasn't cleared and Martin Hardrie pounced to make the scores 2-2, and it was 3-2 with just five minutes left when OAP Coyle scored the winner off the inside of the pos.

Judging by those who were there, we didn't deserve to win the game as the defence was awful. It's the first time some form of Airdrie has beaten us since December 1998! It shows how far we've come this year that it was only our second defeat of the season.

Let's just hope our third doesn't come on Saturday...
