The Buddies team was much changed from the one that lost to Carlisle on Friday night, with Steven Thompson, Jim Goodwin and Marc McAusland all starting, along with new signing Grant Adam. Plenty of youngsters were also in the team, while there was no sign of Darren McGregor, Graham Carey or Kenny McLean.
Thompson put Saints in front in the second half but that strike was quickly cancelled out by Accrington's George Miller.
