Millennium Champions: Basher's back for revenge

The Ayr game had shown we needed a striker and Tom Hendrie duly delivered with the capture of Basher on three month loan deal. Personally, I was delighted as he was, and still is, one of my favourite Saints players. Barry made his second "debut" in the midweek cup defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle and was handed a starting role in Kirkcaldy. He cracked a shot off the post early doors, but after 18 minutes he popped in the first to get himself, and our season, off and running.

It may have been a sunny day, but after that goal it started raining - raining goals that is (I could get a job writing scripts for cheesy movies). Scott Walker volleyed home his first goal for the club after half an hour - not bad for a defender - and fellow new boy Ian Ross opened his own account just before the break.

You might have expected things to change at half time, perhaps Raith would fight back and we'd typically throw things away. Not a bit of it. Instead, after an hour, Mark Yardley decided to get in on the act and he added the fifth soon after. Sub Steven McGarry got the sixth late on, but sadly there was to be no seventh on this occasion.

A brilliant day in Fife - although there would be a better one at the same ground in a few months time. Hendrie's 3-4-3 was clearly working and was promising much. Up next were two more game against Caley Thistle, in the cup and the league, and one would effectively end the career of a promising youngster...
