How the season will end

The task was simple - play our four remaining SPL games and see what the results were. This was done by playing four friendlies, using only the players currently available to us (so no Craig Dargo or Steven Robb). The games were four minutes each way on semi-pro difficulty, with me controlling Saints.

The first game against Motherwell saw almost the same team as the Caley Thistle game, with David Barron replacing Mo Camara (Camara isn't at Saints in the game). Things looked grim when Motherwell took the lead in the second half, but Billy Mehmet rammed home an equaliser with a few minutes to go.

Next up, Kilmarnock away. The team was changed, with Dennis Wyness replacing Jim Hamilton, but it was someone else who scored. Hugh Murray, who always seems to be there when you need a relegation saving goal, scored from a corner (it really is make believe) early in the first half. It was the only goal of the game, although there were a few late scares.

No matter how you look at things, results like these in real life would leave us knowing a win at Falkirk would secure our SPL safety. With Falkirk and Kilmarnock playing each other next week, two Falkirk wins combined with the results above would see us one point clear of them going to Westfield and four ahead of Kilmarnock. A Kilmarnock win and a Falkirk win would see us one clear of both sides. Got that?

Anyway, on to Westfield. It was the same team that faced Kilmarnock, and unbelievably the same scorer as Shuggy struck home another first half goal. The second half saw a Saints goal spree (a phrase not often heard). Wyness was sent flying inside the box and although Andy Dorman's penalty was saved, he popped in the rebound. Then it became the Wyness show, with the veteran striker scoring two superb goals to seal SPL safety in style.

With the future secured, it was no surprise we lost to Hamilton and there were a few amusing misses along the way.

So, if reality pans out anything like that, remember where you heard about it first!
