Know the Ref - Motherwell home

Written by Stuart Gillespie
Sunday, 7th March 2010
Last time Dougie McDonald was in charge of one of our games, we lost 2-0 to Motherwell. Will history repeat itself when he officiates a game against the same opposition at St. Mirren Park on Tuesday night?

Mr McDonald hasn't been involved in either a Saints or Motherwell game since that match in January, so it's a bit pointless going over old ground here. The article ahead of that match can be found at http://www.stmirren-mad.co.uk/roll/ed16/know_the_ref__motherwell_away_485158/index.shtml and contains just about everything you need to know.

However, it is worth pointing out something else. Mr McDonald's last game was the Old Firm match a week or so. Ahead of that game, he was put under enormous pressure after Celtic complained about the performances of the SFA's finest this season (then amusingly claimed they didn't). Did that affect his performance?

Well, he sent off Scott Brown, so it didn't work the way Celtic wanted. He also failed to send off Madjid Bougherra despite him appearing to kick everything that moved. When Celtic appealed the decision, he didn't think he'd done anything wrong. To be honest, I'd agree with that - although action should also have been taken against the pathetic Kyle Lafferty for his antics.

Surprisingly, that was Mr McDonald's first red card of the new decade. Let's hope it remains that way after tomorrow night - unless he fancies dismissing a player from the opposition.
