Know the Ref - Hamilton home

On that particular occasion, we were up against Falkirk away from home. Despite going a goal down in the second half, Craig Dargo, Billy Mehmet and Tom Brighton scored to give us three valuable points. The game was in mid-October and is still our most recent away league win.

Unfortunately, things weren't quite so good last season with Mr Allan. He was the referee who took charge of our 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Celtic, incorrectly sending off Jack Ross at the same time as awarding them a penalty. He was also in charge of a late season game against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park - another disaster as we lost 2-1 to be pushed closer to relegation. That night he disallowed a late equaliser, which was probably the correct decision.

Things are slightly better if you go back to 2007/08, Mr Allan's three games producing a win, a draw and a defeat for Saints. The win was an end of season game against Kilmarnock, Will Haining heading in a late winner from a disputed free-kick (although a decision Jim Jeffries does agree with is pretty rare). The draw was against Aberdeen at Pittodrie when David Barron was correctly sent off, while the defeat was also in the Highlands when we lost to Caley Thistle. Haining was shown two yellow cards that day, at least one of which was rather harsh. Bizarrely, the only other game Soccerbase shows that involves ourselves and Mr Allan was back in August 2003 when we drew 1-1 with St. Johnstone.

No Hamilton games so far for this official, but he did three last season. One was a defeat at Killie, when Accies had David Graham sent off late on, one was a cup win over Ross County - despite James McCarthy being dismissed for Hamilton - and the other was a draw at Dundee United, Simon Mensing taking his turn to be sent off that day. Mr Allan only did one Accies game during their title season in 2007/08, a home win over Partick Thistle.

According to Soccerbase, this official has only taken charge of three other Hamilton games, two of which came in 2006/07. One was a rather unusual game for a side managhed by Billy Reid as it involved plenty of goals, St. Johnstone winning 4-2 in Perth. The other was also on Tayside, Dundee winning with a penalty despite having a man sent off. The other game Mr Allan did was in September 2005, Hamilton winning 2-0 at Queen of the South.

If Soccerbase is to be believed, Mr Allan has only taken charge of six games this season - an average of one a month. In that time he's managed to send off three players, so he may well be due another red card to keep up that impressive run!
