Know the Ref - Celtic away

Last updated : 24 November 2009 By Stuart Gillespie

The Know the Ref feature is taking on a new style from this week. As it's been running for nearly a year, most SPL referees have been covered in detail at least once. As a result, instead of me going to all the bother of typing it up again, I'll post the link to the last time the official was in charge of one of our games as well as what has changed since then before going into detail about his games with the opposition.

Mr Conroy's last game with us was back in April, when we lost at home to Inverness Caley Thistle. It was the start of things going very, very wrong and we nearly ended up being relegated. We did, however, win the other game he took charge of last season and you can read about that at http://www.stmirren-mad.co.uk/news/loadroll.asp?cid=ED16&id=445313

Although Mr Conroy hasn't been in charge of a Saints game this season, he has overseen a match at Parkhead when Celtic drew with Dundee United, the visitors having Scott Robertson sent off. Curiously he also officiated a couple of draws between Celtic and the Arabs last season, as well as an easy home Celtic win over Hamilton and a narrow one at New Douglas Park, the Accies conceding a penalty and having a player sent off. Celtic won with a late goal from Shunsuke Nakamura and it wouldn't be a surprise if it was a dodgy free-kick.

In 2007/08 this official only took charge of one Celtic game, a 2-1 win at Motherwell. The previous season saw just a couple of games, with the Bhoys registering home wins over Dunfermline and Kilmarnock. 2005/06 saw regulation home wins over Inverness Caley Thistle and Kilmarnock, with 2004//05 seeing Mr Conroy's first trip to Parkhead for a win over Killie.

So, Celtic have never lost with Mr Conroy in charge - which doesn't bode well for us. This season he has shown four red cards in a mere nine games. Fingers crossed if anyone gets their marching orders on Saturday it's a Celtic player.
