Magennis, who isn't allowed to play against parent club Aberdeen this weekend, started along with Adam Campbell and Gary Teale. While losing is obviously not ideal, the game did at least allow the three of them - particularly Teale - to get some much needed match practice.
Morgyn Neill headed Motherwell in front early in the second before Magennis equalised just after the hour mark. That looked to be enough to earn Saints a point, but in the final minute Chris Cadden scored what turned out to be the winner.
