The youngsters enjoyed a lead at the break thanks to a goal from Thomas Reilly. However, in typical Saints luck, Reilly got injured in the process of scoring.
United equalised after the second half through Ross Smith but, with time running out, Jack Smith - who replaced Reilly - finished off a cross from Mark Lamont.
