Reserves 1-0 Hearts

The home side dominated the first half, Ryan McCay going closest when he struck the bar with a fierce effort shortly before the break. On the whole, the crosses were far better than anything the first team can produce, causing a whole host of problems in the Hearts defence. The best chance for the jambos came midway through the first half, but after being sent through the player in question (no idea who it was, sorry!) somehow shot wide when he had all the time needed to pick his spot.

The second half was more equal, with Hamilton unlucky not to score on a few occasions for Saints.

With ten minutes to go, Saints won a free-kick just outside the box. It looked as if McCay would take it but instead it was struck by Hamilton, who beautifully curled it into the top corner. It was a stunning effort, the like of which no one has produced in a first team game for some time, and proved to be the winner - although Hearts hit the bar soon after.

A fine way to end reserve football at Love Street then - and results elsewhere mean we're now up to third.
