Saints v Ross County Preview

Last updated : 27 January 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
Saints supporters used to dread playing against Ross County, especially away from home. Far too often the popped four past us up there, so it was nice for us to get some revenge on them earlier in the season, and end their unbeaten home record in the process. County will visit Love Street tomorrow looking to do the same.

Saints have the usual injury worries ahead of tomorrow's game, with Kirk Broadfoot and Craig Hinchcliffe out injured as per usual. Brian McGinty, Billy Mehmet and Hugh Murray are all struggling and will probably miss out, although Shuggy may make his return from injury in the Scottish Cup against Spartans next week.

Saints boss Gus MacPherson will have a tough decision to make on who to start with up front. Mark Corcoran has scored three goals in his last five appearances and so should be able to keep his place, but who will partner him is the big question. Stewart Kean has only scored a few penalties since we hammered Ross County, whilst John Sutton hasn't even managed that. Sutton started last week and wasn't bad, but neither was Kean when he came off the bench. Maybe we'll go with all three...

Saints were boosted this week with the news that Ross County had sold defender Martin Canning to Gretna. Although this makes it less likely that they will be willing to sell us star midfielder John Rankin, it does slightly dent their team a bit, which is good both for tomorrow and the title run in. They have also got rid of Former Saint Steven McGarry to Motherwell, and whilst he wasn't getting a game it does rule out the possibility of him scoring against us this season!

A win tomorrow would leave Saints at least ten points clear at the top of the table with eleven games left. With us on a good run and Ross County without a win in Paisley, there's a good chance of it happening, but Saints being Saints I reckon we'll lose 1-0!
