Saints v Rangers Preview

The worst Saints can be at the end of today is in 8th place - although that could change to 9th if Hibs beat Dunfermline tomorrow night. Thanks to defeats for Falkirk, Dundee United and Motherwell yesterday, we're going to be at least six points from the bottom no matter what happens today.

Anything from today's match is therefore an unexpected and very welcome bonus, especially as Rangers seem to be over their mini crisis after beating Livorno. They may only have won 3-2, but it should be enough to boost the confidence at the Ibrox club ahead of today's game.

Charlie Adam scored his first Rangers goal in Thursday night's game and will be looking for more of the same today as he faces us for the first time since his loan spell at Love Street ended. It's perhaps a relief to some that he broke his duck before he played against us, although now he's probably in the mood for goals and will no doubt get a last minute winner!

Saints boss Gus MacPherson claims that everyone is fit, but I'd be very surprised if either John Potter or Ian Maxwell return to the starting lineup. Potter hasn't played since breaking his foot against Hearts, whilst Maxwell still has a hamstring problem. If it's Andy Millen and Kevin McGowne at the back, someone like Nacho Novo could run riot.

Stewart Kean is now fit again but will have to make do with a place of the bench after Billy Mehmet notched a rare goal against Falkirk last week. It's likely to be the same team that started last week's match, with Kean and Mark Corcoran introduced as the game goes on.
