Saints v Raith Rovers Preview

It doesn't matter who the manager is or how good the team is. The year we won the league we hammered Clydebank 8-0 and a fortnight later drew with them 0-0. For as long as I remember we've always messed up and lost games we should have won, whilst taking points from games we clearly shouldn't have. In that sense, we are the Scotland of the SFL.

Let's look at the evidence. We have lost just three times at home since Gus took over about a year ago, only once in the league. Two of those games were to the teams that finished first and second in last year's first division, the other against Forfar (another example of a game we should have won!). We've just come off the back of our best away result and performance in years, and currently lie third in the table.

Raith are bottom, with just five points and no away wins this season. They are struggling, even with Claude Anelka's departure. The last time they beat us at Lvoe Street was April 1998. Over six and a half years without a victory in Paisley, on poor form, bottom, whilst we're on great form. Yup, it's sure to be a Raith win tomorrow.

Saints will probably go with the same starting 11 as they did last week against Partick Thistle. Mixu Paatelainen might be fit again, but if he is he'll probably have to make do with a place on the bench, alongside last week's goalscoring substitute John O'Neill. Mark Dempsie may also be fit, but he'll also have to make do with a place on the bench. Hopefully Allan Russell and Mark Crilly, who both made their first league starts of the season last weekend, can put in another good performance, whilst Kirk Broadfoot can keep his mind on football matters and play as well as he did last week.

Raith have improved slightly since we beat them 3-0 at Stark's park back in September, thanks to the departure of Claude Anelka and a few of the eejits he had signed. Gordon Daziel is their new manager, and has managed to pick up for points since his arrival, three coming from a good win at home against St. Johnstone. David Berthelot, who is a decent goalkeeper if a bit erratic at times, s fit again and will probably start. Sadly, the brilliantly named Jules Thimbakala is injured.

I'm not at all confident about tomorrow. Fans of other clubs would be, but I'm not. We struggle in these games, and for some reason I think Raith will win 2-0.
