Saints v Queen of the South Preview

Last updated : 28 October 2005 By Stuart Gillespie
Saints have had a good start to the season, losing twice, drawing twice and winning all their other games. We've not been beaten at home this year in the league, and have only conceded two league goals at Love Street in 2005. Queen of the South have just one league win to their name, at home to Airdrie a few weeks ago, and are second bottom.

For any other team, tomorrow should be a formality. However, after years of watching Saints I know we'll struggle and even think we'll lose. We struggle when we should win games, and do well when we shouldn't.

After Tuesday's raid on Stranraer that saw us nick the points in the last minute, Saints will probably go with the same team that did so well. This means that Kevin McGowne and Andy Millen will probably be absent from the starting lineup once again, whilst Mark Reilly makes his first home league appearance of the season. Ian Maxwell is likely to continue in defence after impressing on Tuesday, whilst Chris Smith should keep his place in goal.

John O'Neill left Love Street in the summer to return to Queen of the South, and must be odds on to score against us tomorrow. He scored twice against QOS when with us, and has scored a couple so far this season. If he's fit and plays he'll no doubt inflict some misery on us. Brian McLaughlin is still playing and could cause our defenders havoc, even if he does seem to be getting smaller as each season passes.

An easy Saints win? Not a hope in hell. A1-0 win for the visitors after we hammer them 0-0 for eighty minutes and just can't score.
