Saints v Motherwell Preview

Last updated : 06 January 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
Saints were desperately unlucky to lose that night, with Motherwell winning 2-0 in extra time in extra time after Charlie Adam had hit the woodwork and Andy Millen appeared to score but a goal wasn't given. However, Motherwell had an injury crisis back then, now Saints have one of their own.

Kirk Broadfoot is out for at least two months, whilst Craig Hinchcliffe and Brian McGinty are also sidelined for the foreseeable future. Hugh Murray and John Sutton are extremely doubtful, whilst Billy Mehmet is also unlikely to play as he has a virus and a toe injury. Just as well we signed some players then?

One of the new signings, Iain Anderson, is almost certain to start the game in the centre of midfield, replacing Murray. The other new signing, Tony Bullock is less likely to start as Chris Smith has been in fine form in goal and could keep his place. However, there are rumours that Smith has been carrying an injury for a wee while and Saints boss Gus MacPherson may take this opportunity to rest the young keeper.

Motherwell have no new signings to report so far and have even lost some players, with some of their loan signings returning to their clubs. They are currently sitting in the middle of the SPL table and if Saints are serious about being in the SPL next season, tomorrow is a great chance to show we wouldn't be out of our depth.

Sadly, I see another 2-0 Motherwell win tomorrow, purely because of our injury crisis. Hopefully I'm wrong!
