Saints v Kilmarnock Preview

OK, neither are noteworthy milestones but it shows just how close we are getting to the last ever game at the current St. Mirren Park and it's something that's only going to get closer (obviously). Fingers crossed we can send the old girl out in style, starting with tomorrow.

A number of Saints players are set for their home debuts, with Jack Ross, Tom Brighton and Dennis Wyness all available after featuring in last week's game at Parkhead. Tonet also made his debut there but is an injury doubt for tomorrow. Steven Robb has yet to feature anywhere but seems to have recovered from an injury and should be in the squad tomorrow. The other summer signing is Scott Cuthbert, who only arrived yesterday. With Will Haining suspended and Marc McAusland injured, the big defender is almost certain to start against Killie. He's played for Scotland at numerous levels, but the Celtic youngster has never played in the SPL and it will be interesting to see how he does when playing regularly at such a level. If he's half as good as he's been for me in Football Manager he'll be a good signing.

Saints were quite defensive last week so hopefully we'll make a few changes and have a go tomorrow. Two strikers is a must and Billy Mehmet should be in the team after a good performance against Celtic. Chances are it'll be Brighton or Wyness partnering him, with Craig Dargo injured and Jim Hamilton a bit too similar. Other injury doubts are Gary mason and Andy Dorman.

Kilmarnock were almost as bad up front last season as us and seem to be hoping former Saint Allan Russell solves all their problems this time around. Fortunately, he's injured so won't be able to score against us tomorrow. A few other strikers have also been signed, but no one in Scotland seems to know much about them so it'll be interesting to see if they're any good. Despite reportedly having major financial problems, manager Jim Jeffries was still able to Parma a reasonable sum for Manuel Pascali, suggesting things may not be as bad as they seem. After last season a big improvement is the aim, with a place back in the top six the ultimate target.

Last season games between us and Kilmarnock were quite boring and that could well be the case tomorrow. Chances are it'll either be a goalless draw or won by a single goal - and I reckon Killie will just sneak it.
