Saints v Inverness Caledonian Thistle Preview

We have suffered an incredible number of defeats to Caley Thistle, and they've often been heavy. Paul Ritchie annoyed us again and again by scoring against us after we decided not to sign him, while two managers - Tom Hendrie and John Coughlin - have got the boot following 4-0 humpings at Love Street. But is the tide turning? The 2-1 wins in the early stages of the last two seasons - the latter seeing Charlie Christie chuck it - suggest it might be, although we did lose to them back in November.

Will Haining was sent off that day and he'll be missing tomorrow due to another red card, against Rangers at Ibrox, he picked up a few weeks ago. This is a major blow as Haining has been one of our best players all season and has proven to be an excellent signing from Oldham last year. Fellow summer recruit Gary Mason is also set to miss out with injury, while Richard Brittain and Stephen O'Donnell will be in the stands once more.

There is an unwritten rule in football that players score against their former clubs and most Saints fans will hope that proves to be the case tomorrow. Craig Dargo has done everything but score since he regained fitness and a goal against the team he left in the summer for Love Street would be the perfect way to open his account. There's plenty of other people who'll be anxious to bag their first goal in the stripes as well, such as Andy Dorman - another excellent signing who is looking like a real find - and Jim Hamilton, who should make his debut at some stage. However, he'll probably have to make do with a place on the bench. The only likely changes are Hugh Murray replacing Mason and Franco Miranda replacing Will Haining, with Ian Maxwell moving into the centre of defence.

Caley Thistle have been out of action for a few weeks due to the weather, so they'll either be nice and fresh or a bit rusty. Knowing our luck it will be the latter. Games against the Highlanders give us a chance to shout abuse at Ross Tokely, still hated after his challenge on Chris Kerr in front of the North Bank in 1999. He sometimes has decent games at Love Street - and has even scored there - but he also has some shockers. I hope Hamilton gets a chance to go up against him at some point and give him a taste of his own medicine!

Caley Thistle's freshness will prove the difference tomorrow I feel, with Saints missing Haining badly. A 2-0 win for the visitors with Marius Niculae scoring a double, seeing as he only seems to be able to score in twos!
