Saints v Hibernian Preview

The longer a run goes on without a win, or even a point, the more worried things get. Whilst ten points after the first eight games is a fantastic achivement for us, it's a bit worrying that seven of those came in the first four matches. Every point is necessary if we are to avoid another immediate relegation, so taking something out of tomorrow's match is vital.

The good thing is that no one is really making a break for safety, and it looks as if several teams will be involved in the relegation dogfight. This is good news, as we saw the difficulty of escaping in 2001 when it was just a two way fight. More teams means more chances of someone else finishing below and sides taking points off of each other.

John Sutton will be looking to put all the speculation behind him when he takes to the pitch tomorrow. The striker has scored three (possibly four) goals so far this season and is already being linked with a summer move from Love Street. However, he has apparently claimed today that he hasn't even been offered a new deal and wants to stay here for as long as possible. Hopefully he'll celebrate this announcement with another goal tomorrow.

Saints could have three former Hibees lining up against their old side tomorrow. Kirk Broadfoot will almost certainly start, whilst there's a good chance that Andy Millen will too, although Alan Reid may have to miss out.

Hibs have suffered a mixed start to the season and really seem to be suffering from losing Derek Riordan and Gary O'Connor. That's fair enough as they managed nearly eighty goals between them over the course of the past two seasons, but many down Leith way are rather frustrated that they have not been adequately replaced.

Hibs manager Tony Mowbray has had to cope with speculation all week linking him to the vacant West Brom job, and will have to cope without three key players tomorrow. Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson are both suspended, whilst giant defender Rob Jones (one of the few men who can call Kevin James wee man) is out for six weeks with injury.

Saints have a few injuries too, with John Potter and Brian McGinty definitely out and Stewart Kean likely to join them in the stands. Alex Burke and Iain Anderson are fit again, however, and may make it onto the bench.
