Saints v Hearts Preview

It wasn't that long ago we found ourselves sitting above both the jambos and Kilmarnock in the table, but a poor run of form has seen us slip back down to second bottom. However, with the spectre of relegation no longer hanging around, we'll hopefully improve both our performances and results now that we have a bit more freedom. We know which league we're going to be playing in next season, so let's just concentrate on finishing this one on a high.

Depending how we do in the next few weeks, it's possible we could end up blooding a few youngsters such as Marc McAusland and Mark Docherty. We could also give the likes of Stephen O'Donnell and Richard Brittain a game to see if they are woth keeping next season. However, for now, we'll probably stick with the normal players, especially as we still have an outside chance of making the top six. Ironically, our strongest team for tomorrow would include a relatively inexperienced youngster in the shape of David Barron. He's missed the last few weeks through injury but could return tomorrow. If he doesn't, then fellow youngster Stephen McGinn - who scored at Tynecastle in December - will start.

Stewart Kean has a decent scoring record against Hearts (three of the few goals he's scored in the last two years have come against them), but the chances of him starting tomorrow are slim. Instead, it's likely to be Billy Mehmet and Craig Dargo up front, with the latter really needing to get his first Saints goal as soon as possible. The striker has set a few up but has yet to score and his drought is getting a bit worrying. However, the whole team is struggling to score - Andy Dorman has scored our last three goals spread over a fair number of games!

We've failed to win any of our last six SPL matches and we need to get this sorted soon. A win tomorrow would give us a boost ahead of the cup replay against St. Johnstone on Tuesday night, but it will not be easy. Despite selling top scorer Andrius Velicka, Hearts are still a decent side and have recorded some good results in the last few weeks. They have a good chance to make it into the top six and will be desperate to improve on their poor form against us in the last few years. Christian Nade is a doubt while Laryea Kingston is out for a few weeks, but they have such a big squad they still have plenty of players that can cause us problems.

It would be nice if we could end our poor run of form with a win over Hearts just as we did in December, but sadly I think the Jambos have just enough in their locker to sneak the win.
