Saints v Hamilton Academical Preview

Let's not get carried away though, as not only would we need to beat Hamilton, we'd need Clyde to lose as well. If both sides win, it will set up an interesting clash between the two teams at Broadwood next season.

Let's not get all excitied just yet though. Saints have an unfortunate habit of letting us all down, and will no doubt screw it up either this weekend or next. We need to be realistic and concentrate on ensuring that we aren't in a relegation battle, and once we know we'll be having a safe season in that respect, then we can see where we are in relation to the leaders. I still feel we'll struggle to stay up, but it's nice to be up near the top at this stage, and it's points in the bag for when things do go pearshapped.

There is only one injury for Saints ahead of tomorrow's match. Defender Mark Dempsie is still not fit and won't play, but apart from that everyone else is fit, and there are no suspensions. After good performances when they came on last week, and in Wednesday's reserve game, youngsters Ryan McCay and John Baird might fancy their chances of getting a start. Baird scored the winner last week, and scored an absolute screamer in the reserves, in addition to setting one up, so he could well be in with a chance of replacing Brian McGinty in the starting lineup. Laurie Ellis and Allan Russell also did well in the midweek game, and the latter will be keen to impress against the side which ditched him last summer.

Hamilton deserve a cheer from the Saints support tomorrow, as by clinching second place in the second division last season they knocked Morton out of the promotion places. This gave us all a good laugh, as the Soapless and Hopeless had thrown away a massive lead at the top of the table, and had boasted about how they would pass us on their way up. Very good lads.

hamilton have had a decent start to the season, beating Raith (not exactly difficult mind), drawing away at Falkirk and losing to Partick Thistle. The last result should be encouraging to the supporters of other first division sides, as it was on Hamilton's plastic pitch. Maybe it's not going to be the advantage we thought it was.

Hamilton have two strikers who I would love to have at Love Street. Brian McPhee has scored goals wherever he has gone, and unfortunately could be fit to play tomorrow. Pat Keogh has caused us problems in the past, and I shudder to think how Captain Chaos will cope with him.

Tomorrow's game should be a good one, hopefully Saints won't disappoint us just yet.
