Saints v Gretna Preview

We do, of course, still have one home game left after tomorrow with Rangers supposed to be coming a week on Monday (although it wouldn't surprise me if that is moved again). However, despite Rangers' rather boring style of play, it should at least prove more exciting than tomorrow's game.

The match between ourselves in Gretna back in March wasn't exactly thrill a minute, so god knows what tomorrow's is going to be like. The last two games have seen Falkirk and Kilmarnock beaten in Paisley in games that have been far from exciting and full of the usual end of season nonsense. Gretna's players are trying to impress in a bid to win moves away from the crisis club so perhaps they'll be a bit more up for it than both ourselves and our opponents have been in recent weeks.

A number of players are unlikely to feature tomorrow as they already know their futures lie elsewhere. Mark Corcoran hasn't played since signing for Hamilton while David van Zanten has signed for Hibs and won't play either (although he is injured anyway). With Ian Maxwell and Richard Brittain set to be released in the summer, chances are we've seen the last of them this season as well.

With all these players missing, we'll probably stick to the 4-3-1-2 we've had in the last few weeks. It's been effective and has earned us points, but it doesn't exactly leave us with a lot of width. However, as it's seen us go from 11th to almost securing tenth - and possibly finish even higher - we shouldn't complain. We could see a few youngsters tomorrow, with Marc McAusland and Mark Docherty surely in line for an appearance after making their debuts against Gretna when they last came to Paisley. Hugh Murray could also return after completing his suspension.

Gretna will apparently go to the wall if they don't find a buyer by next weekend, although we've heard that sort of thing from their administrators before. They will see out the season, meaning Tuesday's game against Hearts could be their last ever. It means two more chances for their players to impress and win moves to more financially stable clubs next summer. Guys like Greg Fleming and Gavin Skelton seem close to finalising switches while for others the future is not so certain.

Gretna were hammered 6-1 by Caley Thistle last weekend but chances are that won't happen again. Infact, I reckon this will be a typical, boring, end of season 0-0 draw.
