Kilmarnock v Saints Preview

It was against Hibs on the last day of September that the Buddies last managed to secure three points, thanks to a wonder strike from David van Zanten. Since then, we've slipped further and further down the table and are edging ever closer to bottom placed side Dunfermline - who visit Love Street next week.

Last week saw an improvement with a decent 2-2 draw against Hearts in Paisley. We may even have won the match if Stewart Kean hadn't picked up an injury shortly after scoring his and Saints second goal. It's a knock that has ruled him out of action for at least the next four weeks - a major blow to Saints. Fellow striker Billy Mehmet is also doubtful for tomorrow's match, meaning John Sutton could be on his own up front; that is, if Alex Burke or Mark Corcoran (or even David McKenna) aren't handed a rare start in the first team.

It's not just upfront Saints have injury problems. Iain Anderson and Craig Molloy are both missing from the midfield, although Richard Brittain could be back. Whether that's a good thing or not I'm not sure, as Garry Brady was back to his best against Hearts last week. Personally I'd like to see Brittain come in for Andy Millen and Ian Maxwell replace Kevin McGowne, but that's just me.

When Kilmarnock visited Love Street earlier in the season, I - and most Saints fans - were highly impressed with their performance. Their high tempo (hence I suggest dropping Millen and McGowne) style of play is the sort of thing I'd love to see Saints play if we can keep our place in the SPL. They should easily make the top half of the SPL table this season, and could even qualify for Europe. Their main problem will be holding on to talented youngster Stevie Naismith, who is already attracting attention from both sides of the border. Still, as long as they have someone with as cool a name as Danny Invincible they should be OK!
