Hibs v Saints Preview

Depending how we play, we could be in for an absolute hammering. Brechin were gubbed 4-0 in the last round at Easter Road, and they are pushing for promotion to division one so can't be too bad. If we play the way we did in the first half last week against St. Johnstone, I'd take 4-0 and run for Arthur's Seat.

However, if we play like we can and have done this season, then we could be in for some fun. The performances in the cup against Hamilton and Ayr United have been fantastic, whilst I understand the away hammering of Partick Thistle was also a good showing.

But Hibs aren't Hamilton, Ayr or Partick. They are the third best team in Scotland and a completely differen't kettle of fish. in Garry O'Connor and Derek Riordan, they have the best strike partnership in Scotland, with both set for Scotland call ups in the near future. Considering the pace of Kevin McGowne and Andy Millen, our defence could be ripped to shreds tomorrow.

Anyway, enough of the downbeat stuff, it's our first Scottish cup quarter final since 1987, the first one I'll ever see. Sadly, Mixu Paatelainen is injured long term and won't be fit enough to face his former club, but Millen should have recovered enough from Peter MacDonald's assault to play. Fellow ex Hibbee Kirk Broadfoot will also play, and it would be nice to see his step overs and the like on the big stage. Many Saints fans reckon he could easily play at a higher level, tomorrow is his chance to prove he can.

If I was Gus MacPherson I'd just go at it the same as always tomorrow and treat Hibs the same as the other teams. The only change to last week's starting lineup I'd make would be to drop Brian McGinty for Allan Russell, but I don't see it happening.

If every Saints player can play like they can tomorrow, then we can really show Hibs up. Sadly I don't think we will. I predict a 4-1 win, with Stewart Kean scoring a Saints consolation goal.
