Falkirk v Saints Preview

Clubs often struggle after having a decent result in a cup game and the fact we were playing in midweek, while Falkirk weren't, makes it even more likely that we aren't at our best. Falkirk rattled five past us in Paisley back in December and we have to avoid a repeat of that.

Falkirk seem to be Billy Mehmet's favourite team to play against, while Westfield must be his favourite ground. He's scored three times against the Bairns in the last few seasons, with two of those coming on their own patch. It's not just Mehmet who enjoys playing there, however; after year's of trauma and despair at Brockville we have only suffered one defeat at Falkirk's new ground and we were the first away team to win there in the league.

Despite the good result and performance on Wednesday there will need to be a change, with Will Haining out as he completese his league suspension. The likely switch will see David van Zanten in the back four - not something I'm a fan of but it's what we went with against Inverness Caley Thistle. Jim Hamilton impressed as a sub against them next week and will be available again after being cup tied for midweek. Mark Howard made his debut on Wednesday and did well and will hold on to his place with Chris Smith unfortunately still in hospital. Stephen O'Donnell, Gary Mason and Richard Brittain are all out, although the latter has started training again. Decide for yourselves whether or not that's good news.

Falkirk are on a bit of a poor run of form at the moment, but they weren't exactly firing on all cylinders before they came to Love Street last year. In recent years, John Hughes' signing policy seems to have been bringing in anyone who has been within a few miles of a big English club's training ground - but it has worked. Anthony Stokes was superb last season while Tim Krul did well earlier this term. A number of talented youngsters are still on loan with the appropriately nicknamed Bairns and they'll be desperate to prove themselves over the next few weeks.

Saints often struggle against teams who aren't doing well, while the midweek game may have tired a few of our players. Falkirk to win by a couple.
