Falkirk v Saints Preview

Chances are both they and ourselves will be in the relegation battle come the end of the season, despite the fact we've both had reasonable starts. However, there is also a good chance that a lot of other sides will find themselves involved in the dogfight as well. As a result, any points gained at this early stage of the season - especially against other bottom six sides - will be crucial.

Like Scotland, we find ourselves facing an away game we must take something from and a home game that would see a point being an excellent result. And, like Scotland, it would probably be better in the long run if we won the away game rather than the big game at home. A win would move us six points clear of Falkirk with less than a third of the season gone, and could also lift us further away from 12th place.

Saints have injury problems at the back, with John Potter and Ian Maxwell still out, although Potter is back in training. Kevin McGowne could return, although Saints boss Gus MacPherson may use this as an opportunity to try out a back four. Whatever he does, let's hope to god he doesn't decide to play Stuart Balmer!

Elsewhere in the side, Stewart Kean seems to have returned from injury and could return to the starting lineup, whilst Brian McGinty is still ruled out with a relatively long term injury. Craig Molloy and David McKenna both did well in the reserves 5-1 hammering of Dunfermline during the week but will probably have to make do with a place on the bench at best.

Falkirk have had to endure speculation about manager John Hughes' future in recent days, with Yogi being linked with the soon-to-be vacant managers job at his former side Hibs. For the time being, however, he's still in charge at the Falkirk Stadium and will be looking for a victory that will take them past last season's awful total of one home league win.

New signing Cedric Uras (who, surprisingly, is not a comedy name from the Simpsons) comes into the squad but will probably have to make do with a place on the bench to start with. Despite the fact we last played Falkirk around 18 months ago, there don't seem to be too many of their players left from them - Russell Latapy and Pedro Moutinho being the only major ones I remember from our last game against them.
