Falkirk v Saints Preview

1987/88 was the season, 3-1 to Saints the score. That was the last time we beat Falkirk away from Love Street. I would have been about three and a half, and Brockville might have been a state of the art stadium. Thankfully, Brockville is gone, but our form at Ochilview against Falkirk last season wasn't great either; one point and no goals from two games.

Thankfully, Falkirk finally have their new stadium. It has one very nice, very big stand and that's about it. Tell a lie, they have a tent with a few seats which passes for a stand as well. Thank god I've got something better to do tomrorow than b charged a fortune to go into that tent and watch us play.

Saints have a major injury problem ahead of tomorrow's match. Mixu is injured. The big Finn has totally changed the Saints team from last year's shambles, and his absence could cause problems. Hopefully he'll be fit soon, but whilst he's out we could strubble. Brian McGinty will start up front again, but who will join him? Will it be midfielder John O'Neill, who scored last week and is our top scorer? Or will it be John Baird, who has scored twice since signing in the summer. Other outside bets include Allan Russell, who is still recovering from injury, and David McKenna. The only other injury problem is Mark Dempsie, who will again be injured.

Falkirk have started work on building another stand to go with the single one they have at the moment, and that will finally bring them up to the SPL criteria, which they have been promising to meet within 2 months for the last six years. Ah well, better late than never I suppose. Now that Falkirk have almost finished their ground, it means that the rest of us can't moan about them signing players whilst not improving their ground. Darryl Duffy will cause us major problems tomorrow, the former Rangers man has already scored 15 goals this season and will be out for more. Former Hibs, Rangers and Dundee United player Russell Latapy will also cause problems, and the pair of them could rip our defence to shreds.

So can we get our first win in Falkirk for years? Well, we managed our first win against them anywhere for four and a half years in August, so anything is possible. Sadly, I don't see it, and think Falkirk will win 2-0.
